Repeal Online Age Verification Now

To: Sen. Reineke, Gov. DeWine, Rep. Click

From: A verified voter in Clyde, OH

October 4, 2025

I am writing to you as your constituent to demand the repeal of Ohio's mandatory online age verification law passed in the state budget bill this past summer. In the wake of a data breach that occurred within Discord this week, data such as the last four digits of credit/debit cards and copies of IDs, this demonstrate how these laws make users on the internet less safe rather than doing what the law intended. Mandating users submit photos of their IDs in unprotected systems not set up by the government will lead to this disastrous outcome, as data breaches are not a matter of if, but when. Furthermore, adults in the state of Ohio have a right to view legal, consensual content on the internet and speak freely on the internet without having to give up their privacy. Online doxing campaigns organized by violent people and officials in the Trump administration have shown this to be a problem. These laws only chill free speech and prevent people from speaking their mind. I urge the state of Ohio to heed these warnings and repeal mandatory online verification immediately. Privacy, the right to speak anonymously, and user's safety matter. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
