Call for humane immigration reform, close ICE detention centers

To: Rep. Lee, Sen. Cortez Masto, Sen. Rosen

From: A constituent in Las Vegas, NV

May 10

The recent arrest of Newark Mayor Ras Baraka during a visit to an ICE detention facility shines a light on the inhumane treatment of immigrants in these centers. Reports have documented violations of medical standards, lack of COVID-19 protocols, and instances of physical and verbal abuse by guards. These deplorable conditions are unacceptable and go against American values of human rights and dignity. The disregard for fundamental constitutional rights and the rising totalitarianism displayed by ICE's actions are concerning. We cannot allow ICE to continue operating these facilities that traumatize vulnerable people seeking a better life. Comprehensive immigration reform is urgently needed to provide a fair and humane system that upholds democratic principles. I urge you to support the closure of ICE detention centers and a shift towards more ethical and transparent immigration policies that respect human rights.
