In a letter dated July 25, 2025, your office writes: “Recently, the United States Supreme Court directed the Trump administration to facilitate Abrego Garcia’s return. The Supreme Court ordered his return, not because he is innocent, but because he was granted withholding of removal to El Salvador. The President and his administration have taken the necessary steps to remove any domestic obstacles that stand in the way of facilitating Garcia’s return, however his release is now up to the Salvadoran government. Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele stated that he will not return Abrego Garcia back to the U.S.” This information is woefully outdated. Kilmar Abrego-Garcia was returned to the US on June 6, 2025, almost 2 MONTHS AGO. And even though he’s here under court oversight, he is under threat of ICE pickup if the judge dares to release him pre-trial. And to be clear: I am not saying Kilmar is innocent. I am saying he deserves a fair trial without backdoor threats or political revenge. If the judge grants him pre-trial release? Then follow the law. We have a judicial branch for a reason. And we either believe in it—or we don’t. Don’t claim the rights afforded in the Constitution when it benefits you and then discard it when it forces you to uphold rights for someone else. If the courts say he should be free, then let him go.
