I urge you to oppose H.Res. 1239. Antisemitism is real and must be opposed. Conspiracy theories, Holocaust denial, blood libel, and threats against Jewish people are dangerous and unacceptable. But this resolution is not a serious or good-faith response to hate. It is a political weapon that treats the central crisis as online commentary while Congress continues to ignore, excuse, and materially support Israel’s genocide, ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, starvation, and mass killing of Palestinians. The premise of this resolution is unacceptable. The problem is not that people are too loudly criticizing Israel. The problem is that Israel is committing atrocities with U.S. weapons, U.S. money, and U.S. diplomatic protection, while members of Congress try to redirect public outrage toward online personalities instead of toward the policies enabling mass death. Condemning antisemitism must not mean shielding the Israeli government from accountability. It must not mean equating criticism of Israel, opposition to Zionism, support for Palestinian liberation, or condemnation of U.S. complicity with hatred of Jewish people. That false conflation endangers Jewish communities by diluting the fight against actual antisemitism, and it endangers Palestinians by suppressing necessary opposition to state violence. Congress has no moral credibility lecturing the public about hateful rhetoric while refusing to stop arming a government that has devastated Gaza, displaced Palestinians, attacked civilians, obstructed humanitarian aid, and pursued permanent domination over Palestinian land and life. If you are serious about combating hate, oppose antisemitism, anti-Palestinian racism, Islamophobia, and all forms of bigotry without using one community’s safety as a weapon against another. If you are serious about protecting life, support an arms embargo, end U.S. military aid to Israel, demand accountability for war crimes and genocide, and protect free speech for those protesting atrocities. I urge you to oppose H.Res. 1239 and reject any resolution that weaponizes antisemitism to distract from Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
