Opposition to War with Iran and Demand for War Powers Legislation

To: Rep. McCollum, Sen. Klobuchar, Sen. Smith

From: A constituent in Lake Elmo, MN

March 3

As your constituent, I am writing to express my profound dismay regarding President Trump’s recent actions signaling a move toward war with Iran. The prospect of a major conflict in the Middle East is deeply concerning, and I urge you to take immediate action to prevent this escalation.  I strongly believe in upholding the constitutional principle that only Congress has the power to declare war. The President must not be allowed to unilaterally drag this country into another disastrous conflict. I urge you to support and pass legislation, such as a bipartisan War Powers Resolution, to restrain presidential authority and ensure that any military action against Iran receives explicit, prior authorization from Our troops should not have their lives put on the line without proper congressional debate and authorization. Please act to uphold the Constitution, uphold peace, and limit the executive branch's war powers.
