I am writing to oppose House Bill five and Senate bill 50. I have two children in public school, in the typically very safe suburb of Cary. Last year, each kid had their school locked down due to nearby gun violence. Last semester I got a text from my 12-year-old that sent my heart into my shoes that read, "hey mom, we're on lockdown. If I don't make it, I love you". I spent the next two hours trying not to have a panic attack. We don't have to live like this
Why is increasingly unfettered access to more guns the highest good Republicans can come up with? Don't we have a duty to protect our children from this kind of terror? What we need is some sane common sense reforms. The fact that there are more guns in this country than people is absurd. I believe guns should be legal, but licensed and regulated in a similar way driver's licenses are. There is just no reason for this kind of unfettered gun worship. It is terrorizing people, and it is costing lives.
