Vote on H.R. 6644 and Curbing Institutional Investors
To: Sen. Moreno
From: A verified voter in Columbus, OH
March 2
I am writing to express my views on the Housing for the 21st Century Act (H.R. 6644) coming before the Senate this week.
While I understand the bill aims to streamline construction and reduce regulatory barriers, I am particularly concerned about how this legislation will interact with the growing trend of institutional investors buying up single-family homes in Ohio. I am aware that you have expressed interest in banning these corporate buy-ups to protect first-time homebuyers.
As a member of the Banking and Housing Committee, I urge you to:
-- Ensure that H.R. 6644 includes or is paired with strong protections that prevent large-scale corporate investors from outbidding Ohio families.
-- Prioritize "supply-side" solutions that actually result in affordable starter homes, rather than just luxury developments.
-- Hold the DHS accountable during their budget appropriations regarding how housing resources are allocated in our state.
I closely monitor your voting record on the Banking Committee and hope to see you prioritize the interests of individual Ohioans over corporate landlords.
