The proposed $1.2 trillion in funding cuts under the "Big, Beautiful Bill," primarily targeting Medicaid and food stamps, is deeply concerning. Stripping away access to essential healthcare and nutrition assistance from vulnerable populations will only perpetuate cycles of poverty and poor health outcomes. According to the Minnesota Department of Human Services, this bill could cause over 250,000 Minnesotans to lose their Medicaid coverage, leaving them without affordable access to vital medical services. Simultaneously, the Congressional Budget Office estimates 3 million Americans could lose food stamp benefits, exacerbating food insecurity issues. As a society, we should be expanding access to these critical safety net programs, not decimating them. I urge you to reject measures that will inevitably harm our most vulnerable citizens and instead prioritize policies that uplift and support all members of our community. The human costs of these draconian cuts are simply too high.
