Block the Border Wall Through Big Bend National Park

To: Rep. Zinke, Sen. Sheehy, Sen. Daines

From: A constituent in Clinton, MT

July 4

Block federal funding for border wall construction inside Big Bend National Park — and pass legislation that permanently prevents any administration from waiving the National Park Service Organic Act inside a designated national park. What's happening at Big Bend right now is unprecedented: the first time in American history that environmental laws have been waived inside a national park, not just near one. The Endangered Species Act, the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, the Organic Act itself — all swept aside for $4.3 billion in construction contracts whose plans CBP won't even release to the public. Big Bend accounts for 1.3% of total border apprehensions nationwide. Migrant crossings are already at historic lows. This is not a security crisis — it's a $4.3 billion handout to contractors, paid for by destroying 800,000 acres of irreplaceable Chihuahuan Desert. Seven former Big Bend superintendents and more than 130 Texas businesses and organizations have already said no. Congress needs to say no too. Restore the legal protections that belong to our public lands.
