I am urging you to reassert Congress‘s authority in the decision-making process of what the federal government does or does not do. Congressional mandated programs being dismantled by the executive branch is poor policy. The gutting of the budgets and personnel of many federal agencies is going to have terrible repercussions in terms of the delivery of services, affecting the health, safety and welfare of Americans. Congress is responsible for being sure that the federal government functions properly. It cannot function if it is being decimated. I urge you to stand up for healthy federal agencies, and not the indiscriminate and destructive cutting of budgets and staff that the executive branch has been doing. In particular, I am afraid that the cuts in federally sponsored scientific research is going to eliminate America’s advantage in science and technology.
