I am writing as a concerned Louisiana resident and U.S. veteran to express my deep alarm and strong opposition to the recent missile strikes that resulted in the killing of civilians traveling by boat in international waters. These actions—regardless of the stated justification—represent a grave violation of international law, basic human decency, and the long-standing principles that govern the protection of non-combatants.
Targeting or endangering unarmed individuals far outside any declared war zone erodes the United States’ moral authority, increases global instability, and risks pulling our nation into broader conflicts without congressional oversight or public accountability. As my elected representative, I urge you to take immediate steps to demand transparency, accountability, and restraint.
Specifically, I ask that you:
Publicly condemn the missile strikes on civilians in international waters.
Call for a full investigation into the chain of command, legal justification, and intelligence failures that led to these killings.
Support legislation or resolutions that reaffirm Congress’s constitutional role in authorizing military actions and preventing unauthorized uses of force.
Advocate for diplomatic solutions that prevent further escalation and protect civilian life.
These deaths were unnecessary and tragic. The United States must hold itself to the highest standards of conduct—especially when the lives of innocent people are at stake. I am urging you, as my representative, to ensure that these actions do not go unanswered and that safeguards are put in place to prevent such tragedies from occurring again.
Thank you for your time and for giving this urgent matter your attention. I look forward to hearing what steps you intend to take in response.
Respectfully,
