Please protect children from potential abuse, homeschooling needs accountability

To: Sen. Obenshain, Del. Wilt, Gov. Youngkin

I believe there should be more oversight and accountability measures put in place for homeschooling programs. While religious and philosophical exemptions allow families to exercise their rights, there needs to be a system to ensure all children are receiving an adequate education that meets approved standards. Homeschooled students should have to take regular standardized tests or submit portfolios/work samples to verify they are making appropriate academic progress. Increased regulation could help identify cases of educational neglect and ensure homeschooling is being used properly, not just as a way to avoid sending children to school.
