In the recent stop gap federal funding bill that was passed in December to prevent the shut down the provision that would provide funding to replace SNAP benefits from the cards of EBT recipients was one of the measures dropped. I understand that federal funding as a whole is in a state of flux right now but I am asking you to introduce legislation to replace this vital funding. Any benefits since 12/20 electronically stolen/skimmed from the EBT cards of SNAP recipients are unable to be replaced. This month alone, only six days in, the Hudson County welfare office has received over 300 applications for stolen benefit replacement that will have to be denied because there is no funding to replace them with. Many working families and fixed income seniors depend on their SNAP will go hungry purely because they were victims of a crime. Please take a moment to help the many households suffering from this through no fault of their own stay fed.
