Uphold the Constitution: No War Without Congress

To: Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott, Rep. Donalds

From: A verified voter in Cape Coral, FL

March 1

I am writing as a constituent to demand immediate congressional action to uphold your constitutional authority over decisions of war and military engagement. The United States Constitution is clear: the power to declare war belongs to Congress. This safeguard exists to ensure that decisions placing American service members in harm’s way are debated openly, weighed carefully, and authorized by the representatives of the American people — not undertaken unilaterally. Recent military actions taken without explicit congressional authorization raise profound constitutional concerns and risk escalating the United States into broader conflict without public consent or oversight. This is not a partisan issue; it is a constitutional responsibility and a matter of democratic accountability. Congress was not elected to stand by in moments of consequence. You were elected to represent the will of the American people and to serve as a check on executive power. I urge you to act immediately to: • Reassert Congress’s exclusive authority to declare war • Require explicit authorization before any further military escalation • Enforce the War Powers Resolution and demand full transparency • Convene public hearings to examine the legal justification, risks, and consequences of current military actions • Prioritize diplomacy and de-escalation to prevent further loss of life War carries irreversible human, moral, and economic costs. Decisions of this magnitude must not bypass the constitutional process designed to protect both our service members and our democracy. The American people deserve transparency, accountability, and leadership grounded in the rule of law. I expect you to fulfill your duty and ensure that any move toward war reflects the will of those you serve.
