Vote no on HJ140 - Protect the Boundary Waters
To: Rep. Miller-Meeks
From: A constituent in Iowa City, IA
January 21
I am writing to urge you to vote NO on H.J.Res. 140 because of its implications for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
For Iowans who hunt, fish, camp, and value the land, the Boundary Waters represents the best of our outdoor heritage. It supports outfitters, guides, and small towns through sustainable recreation, not boom-and-bust development. We’ve learned the hard way that short-term profit often leaves long-term damage that taxpayers and local communities are stuck paying for.
For many Iowans, protecting places like the Boundary Waters reflects our values: respect for the land, responsibility to our neighbors, and stewardship for future generations. The outdoor economy built around hunting, fishing, guiding, and tourism provides steady, long-term livelihoods without risking irreversible damage.
Voting no on H.J.Res. 140 would reaffirm Congress’s duty to protect America’s most special public lands rather than weaken safeguards for short-term interests. Some places are simply too valuable to gamble with.
I respectfully ask that you oppose H.J.Res. 140 and stand up for clean water, conservation, and the American tradition of protecting our shared heritage.
