I am writing as your constituent to express deep concern over recent reports that the Department of Justice under President Trump issued subpoenas requesting the private healthcare information of transgender Americans from 20 different hospitals. This kind of government overreach is a grave violation of medical privacy and a direct threat to the civil liberties and wellbeing of transgender people nationwide. Marylanders must be protected from this kind of political targeting and discrimination. Medical decisions should remain between patients and their healthcare providers; not be used as tools for federal intimidation or ideologically-charged attacks. I urge you to take immediate steps to: - Publicly oppose any attempts to collect or weaponize private medical records, especially those targeting transgender individuals. - Introduce or support legislation that protects healthcare data from out-of-state or federal misuse. - Affirm the right of all Marylanders, especially that of transgender teenagers, to access evidence-based medical care without fear of surveillance or retaliation. The people of Maryland deserve leaders who will uphold our values of privacy, dignity, and equal treatment under the law. Please stand firm against efforts to criminalize or stigmatize transgender people simply for seeking care.
