Demand Justice for ICE Medical Abuse Survivors – Prosecute Dr. Amin and Shut Down ICDC
I’m writing to demand immediate Congressional action in response to the horrifying abuses committed against immigrant women at the Irwin County Detention Center (ICDC) in Georgia between 2017 and 2020.
A Senate investigation confirmed that dozens of women were subjected to invasive, unnecessary, and often non-consensual gynecological procedures—including hysterectomies, laparoscopies, and D&Cs—under the care of ICE-contracted Dr. Mahendra Amin.
These abuses mirror the darkest chapters of history. This was not medical care—it was state-enabled medical violence. The survivors deserve truth, justice, and protection from further harm.
I urge you to take the following actions:
1. Call for the immediate criminal prosecution of Dr. Mahendra Amin and any officials within ICE, DHS, or LaSalle Corrections who enabled or covered up these abuses.
2. Permanently shut down ICDC and end its use by the U.S. Marshals or any federal agency.
3. Pass legislation banning non-consensual medical procedures in all detention settings and mandating independent medical oversight.
4. Strengthen protections for whistleblowers, including those like nurse Dawn Wooten, who risked her career to expose this abuse.
This was a human rights violation. It happened on American soil. And if Congress does not act, it will happen again.
Please do not stay silent. Stand up for the women who were silenced.
