I am a constituent in North Carolina’s 11th District, and I strongly oppose any return of the military draft or compulsory “national service,” including automatic draft registration.
Expanding draft registration while discussing the possibility of renewed conscription sends a clear message that ordinary Americans may once again be forced into wars they did not choose. At the same time, major defense and technology contractors are publicly calling for the draft to be reinstated and for “universal service” to become mandatory, while they profit from war and militarization. Ordinary people bear the risks, injuries, and trauma, while powerful institutions benefit.
I am asking you to:
• Publicly and unequivocally oppose any reinstatement of the draft or compulsory national service.
• Support efforts to roll back automatic draft registration and protect people from forced conscription.
• Reject the money and influence of defense and tech companies that advocate for conscription while profiting from war.
• Demand full transparency and strict limits on any expansion of the Selective Service System.
If political and corporate leaders truly believe a war is necessary, they can volunteer themselves and their own families first. Until then, they have no moral basis for forcing others to fight.
I am watching your actions on this issue closely and will share your response with others in the district. I request a clear written statement of your position on the draft, automatic registration, and compulsory national service.
