As your concerned constituent, I urge you to reject the SAVE Act which will unconstitutionally disenfranchise millions of voters. It will especially be burdensome on women who often change their last names after marriage, which is estimated to be about 69 million women.
My grandmother has been an active voting citizen for decades. She has not left the country in years, so she has no current passport. She is on a fixed income and can't afford the expense of a passport --which, again, would be just to vote, since she is not in good enough health to travel internationally. She was born at home 90 years ago and does not have access to a birth certificate with her maiden name. Yet she would suddenly be stripped of her right to vote under the SAVE act.
The SAVE Act will only create unconstitutional burdens and threaten democracy. Passing this legislation would be an absolute shame for our democracy.
Reject the SAVE Act.
