Your Vote on Arm Sales to Israel—and the Moral Cost
To: Sen. Cortez Masto
From: A constituent in Las Vegas, NV
July 31
I am writing to express my deep disappointment and grief over your vote against Senator Bernie Sanders’ joint resolution to block U.S. arms sales to Israel (S.J.Res. 34 and related measures) on July 30, 2025.
Despite growing concern in the Senate—including a majority of Senate Democrats supporting one or both resolutions—you voted to continue enabling the transfer of $675 million in bombs and tens of thousands of assault rifles to Israel . This was not a partisan gesture. All Senate Republicans opposed the resolution, yet you sided with them—and against the moral urgency of the moment.
This vote came as famine and degradation are worsening in Gaza. Over 60,000 Palestinians—many of them innocent children—have been killed, families destroyed, hospitals bombed, and starvation deepened by siege conditions . The weapons you voted to authorize are being used to sustain this killing machine—and they are supplied on behalf of American taxpayers.
What Israel is doing is not self-defense. It is ethnic cleansing. It is collective punishment. It is genocide. Your vote is complicit in that system.
Furthermore, these actions do not make Jews safer—they fuel antisemitism around the globe. Conflating Israel’s state violence with Jewish people invites more hatred, more scapegoating, and more violence. This is a moral and strategic failure.
As your constituent in Nevada, I demand that you change course:
• Immediately and unequivocally support an end to all U.S. arms sales to Israel.
• Join the call for an immediate ceasefire and full accountability for war crimes.
• Make clear that your allegiance is to human rights and justice, not to donor networks or foreign lobbying.
History is watching. And so are we.
