Utah Must Join the Lawsuit Defending the Endangerment Finding

To: Rep. Dailey-Provost, Sen. Plumb, Gov. Cox

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

March 20

Utah needs to join the 23 states and 17 cities challenging the Trump administration's repeal of the endangerment finding. This 2009 scientific ruling established that greenhouse gases threaten public health and serves as the legal foundation for reducing emissions from cars and power plants. Without it, we lose the federal framework for addressing the pollution crisis that plagues our state. You've acknowledged that pollution is our number one problem here. The endangerment finding is the cornerstone of federal authority to regulate vehicle emissions and power plant pollution under the Clean Air Act. Repealing it strips away protections that directly impact Utah's air quality. Major cities from New York to Los Angeles recognize this threat and are fighting back. Utah should be standing with them. The EPA claims this repeal is about statutory authority, but 23 state attorneys general disagree strongly enough to sue. They argue the repeal violates the Clean Air Act itself. Utah residents deserve leadership that matches words with action. Join this lawsuit and defend the legal tools we need to tackle the pollution problem you say is our top priority.
