Return Kilmar to his family!

To: Sen. Scott, Rep. Wilson, Sen. Graham

April 14

Today, President Trump met with the President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele. Despite erroneously deporting Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a father of American children without a criminal record, Trump and Bukele state that they had no basis to return him to the US despite a Supreme Court ruling that they facilitate his return. Bukele also stated that he does not “have the power to return him to the United States.” Trump did not have the authority to deport this man to a foreign prison, yet did so anyway. As such, Trump and Bukele certainly have the power to return this man to his family. The problem is that they don’t want to. Not only is Kilmar’s treatment cruel and inhumane, Trump is flagrantly violating a Supreme Court ruling. We are rapidly nearing a number of constitutional crises in our country, and this is just one of them. As members of the Republican Party, it is your duty to protect the American people from Trump’s worst instincts and this descent into authoritarianism. If you don’t think this is a problem for you, you will soon feel the pressure when when it’s a South Carolinian that is swept up by Trump’s illegal immigration tactics.
