Trump must follow SCOTUS’s ruling about Abrego Garcia’s illegal detention
To: Rep. Luna
From: A verified voter in Gulfport, FL
April 15
I spoke to a staff member at the DC office at about 1:45pm today, and wanted to follow up in writing.
I was calling to express my profound concern over the Trump administration ignoring the Supreme Court ruling that Kilmar Abrego Garcia must be returned to the US, after he was illegally removed to an inhumane El Salvador prison despite being in this country legally and being neither accused or convicted of any crime in either country. As my Representative in the US House, sworn to uphold the Constitution, I wanted to know what you are planning to do about this constitutional crisis.
The staff member stated that “Representative Luna supports the Trump administration.” In the process of asking for clarification, she repeated this line a couple of times, so I finally asked “So your position is that the Congresswoman supports Trump, no matter WHAT he does?” She replied, “Yes, ma’am.” I was so stunned and horrified, I could only thank her for her time and end the call.
I would like to go on record saying that this is not how a constitutional democracy with three co-equal branches of federal government operates. Declarations of blind loyalty to the leader of the executive branch, as they overtly violate the law, is what happens in brutal authoritarian regimes. If I, an oncology nurse with no formal legal or political training, can understand this, I simply cannot believe that you, a duly elected second-term member of Congress, do not understand this.
Please let me know when and how you will put your country and constituents first, and stand up to Trump’s blatant executive overreach and disrespect of the rule of law.
