An Open Letter
To: Sen. Booker
From: A constituent in Clementon, NJ
August 23
Dear Senator Booker,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring to your attention a pressing issue concerning Atlantic City Electric (ACE) and the mismanagement of their accounts which may or may not relate to the installation of new "smart meters." Many constituents in our community have reported a troubling increase in their electricity bills since these meters were put into service. It is significant that bills are now 3 to 4 times higher than what they should be. Specifically, the rate multiplier for kilowatt hours appears to be mis-reported for summer rates, causing undue financial strain on our residents.
Despite numerous complaints and appeals for corrections, there has been little to no relief or effective resolution provided to those affected. Many families and businesses are struggling to cope with these inflated bills, which are clearly out of line with their actual electricity consumption.
I urge you to investigate this matter thoroughly and to advocate for immediate corrective measures. It is imperative that ACE addresses this issue promptly, ensures the accuracy of their billing practices, and provides fair compensation or adjustments to those who have been overcharged. Additionally, transparency in the rate reporting process and regular audits of the smart meter data should be implemented to prevent such issues in the future.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your support and prompt action to help alleviate the burden faced by the residents of New Jersey.
Sincerely,
Christopher Hammond
