Oppose Commutation for Tina Peters

To: Gov. Polis

From: A constituent in Grand Junction, CO

March 10

Do not commute Tina Peters' sentence. She was convicted of tampering with election equipment to advance the lie that the 2020 election was rigged. She betrayed her oath as Mesa County clerk and has shown zero remorse for her crimes against our democracy. Peters received nine years because she earned it. She violated the trust of voters and compromised the security of our elections at the behest of conspiracy theorists. Comparing her case to a state senator who got probation for fabricating letters is absurd. Peters didn't just lie on paper. She attacked the foundation of our electoral system. Cutting her sentence to appease Trump would be a betrayal of every Coloradan who believes in accountability and fair elections. It sends the message that politically connected criminals get special treatment. Colorado rejected Trump three times. We don't need our governor caving to his pressure now. This state deserves leaders who defend democracy, not ones who let election criminals walk free for political convenience. Stand with Colorado voters, not with those who tried to undermine us.
