Restore Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments

To: Gov. Cox, Rep. Dailey-Provost, Sen. Plumb

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

July 14

Our state must push back against Trump's decision to strip 1.5 million acres of protected land from Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante. These monuments belong to all of us — and Bears Ears is the ancestral homeland of the Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, Ute Indian Tribe, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and Pueblo of Zuni. Gutting these protections erases irreplaceable cultural heritage and opens sacred land to exploitation. The Antiquities Act of 1906 gives presidents the power to create national monuments — not destroy them. Legal scholars and environmental groups agree this action exceeds executive authority, and the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance is already preparing a court challenge. I want you to join that fight: speak out publicly against this order, support any legislative effort to restore these protections, and use every tool available to defend this land before it's gone for good.
