Preserve judicial independence and protect civil liberties
To: Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis
From: A constituent in Corolla, NC
May 23, 2025
The provision to require plaintiffs to post bonds before federal courts can issue orders against the government undermines the judiciary's ability to serve as a check on executive overreach and safeguard constitutional rights. Federal courts must retain their authority to hold officials accountable when they violate the law or infringe on civil liberties. Eroding this crucial system of checks and balances threatens the foundations of our democracy. Reject any measures that would impair the courts' power to uphold the rule of law and protect individual freedoms. A robust and independent judiciary is essential for preserving our nation's commitment to justice and liberty. Please reject all measures undermining judicial oversight and civil liberties included in the so-called "Big, Beautiful, Bill."
