I am writing to express my strong opposition to President Trump’s recent executive order establishing a task force to investigate "anti-Christian bias" in the federal government. This order raises serious constitutional concerns and appears to be another step toward institutionalizing Christian nationalism, a movement that threatens religious pluralism and democracy.
Religious freedom must apply equally to all faiths and non-religious individuals. The government should not elevate one religion over others. Given Trump’s history—including the Muslim travel ban and using religion to justify discriminatory policies—this order seems more about promoting Christian nationalism than protecting religious rights.
Christian nationalism merges Christianity with American identity, often at the expense of minority faiths and secular citizens. This ideology has emboldened extremist groups, deepened division, and undermined the separation of church and state. When religion is weaponized for political gain, democracy itself is at risk.
I urge you to take the following actions:
1. Demand Oversight – Ensure this task force does not promote Christian nationalism or discriminate against religious minorities and secular Americans.
2. Challenge Unconstitutional Measures – Support legal challenges if this order leads to policies that violate the First Amendment.
3. Condemn the Rise of Christian Nationalism – Publicly denounce efforts to erode religious pluralism and oppose policies that empower extremist movements.
4. Defend True Religious Freedom – Uphold the principle that no religious group should receive government favoritism.
The separation of church and state is a core foundation of American democracy. I urge you to stand against this executive order and the growing influence of Christian nationalism. Please let me know what steps you will take on this issue.
