Support House-Passed H.R. 1689: TPS Extension for Haitians

To: Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott

From: A verified voter in Ocoee, FL

April 18

I’m writing to urge you to support extending Temporary Extended Status (TPS) for Haitian migrants, who are an indispensable part of our communities and economy. Approximately 350,000 Haitian migrants are here legally—paying taxes, contributing to critical sectors like healthcare, and enriching the fabric of our nation. To revoke their protected status now would be both morally and economically reckless, destabilizing families and industries that rely on their labor. These individuals aren’t just statistics. They are nurses, caregivers, and frontline workers who’ve kept hospitals running even in the darkest days of the pandemic. Their contributions stand in stark contrast to those who’ve exploited our healthcare system for personal gain—a painful irony, given one certain Floridian elected official’s notorious entanglement in the largest healthcare fraud scandal in U.S. history. The Haitian TPS community represents the opposite: they are hardworking, taxpaying, and essential. Haiti remains gripped by political chaos, gang violence, and natural disasters. Forcing their returns under these conditions isn’t just cruel—it’s nonsensical. Please champion an extension of TPS for Haitians. Stability for them means stability for the American businesses and communities they sustain.
