Vote NO (Again!) on Mid-Decade Redistricting

To: Rep. Lopez, Gov. Braun, Sen. Ford

From: A constituent in Carmel, IN

November 30

The Indiana Constitution requires that the General Assembly redraw district lines once every decade based on Census data. These lines determine our political voice, shaping our communities for the next ten years. When redistricting is fair, it reflects population changes, ensures racial diversity is respected, and helps legislators equitably allocate representation in Congress and the state legislature.

But when redistricting is used to manipulate electoral outcomes or target specific communities, it becomes gerrymandering—a tool historically used to weaken the voting power of communities of color.

This year, despite opposition from the majority of Hoosiers, Governor Mike Braun has called on lawmakers to redraw maps mid-decade, following pressure from Washington outsiders to push GOP-led states to redraw maps before the 2026 midterms. This power grab undermines our democracy.

We need lawmakers focused on what Hoosiers really need—funding higher education, supporting agriculture, and strengthening the workforce—not spending tax dollars to rig elections. 60% of Hoosiers oppose early redistricting, and their voices must be heard.

We, the voters, choose our elected officials—not the other way around. This issue was already decided, and I am incredibly disappointed to see it on the state’s agenda again within weeks of a clear bipartisan refusal. Stop the absurdity and do NOT proceed with mid-decade redistricting!
