Sending 150 Ohio National Guard members to Washington, DC will contribute to a single national police force. Eventually, they will contribute to giving federal police forces power over local police throughout the nation, including Ohio. You undermine community trust and legitimacy in our state government as you overreach the military authority. You are advocating for highly political risks that will lead to the misuse of the National Guard. The infringement of civil liberties will be detrimental because broad federal powers could lead to overreach and abuse. The National Guard and the military are trained in combat situations, not local police jurisdictions. At the tail end of a lifetime in politics, this is how you will be remembered: a contributor to the fascist regime and lockstep with the historical events in Nazi Germany. You have been slowly capitulating to Trump since that fateful conversation between you during COVID. When nations and fascists/authoritarian experts and scholars around the world are setting off alarm bells, you are complying. What is your next step, to gather troops to invade Mexico to take out the cartels, as Trump has in his sights? The fact that the Kent State Massacre occurred because of military overreach in a student protest should be enough of a deterrent to your decision. This is abhorrent behavior, and your fascist complicity is how you will be remembered.
