mandate safe storage of firearms when youth are present

To: Rep. Thompson

From: A constituent in Woodland, CA

March 11

This bill aims to improve gun safety by requiring the secure storage of firearms. According to federal data, an estimated 4.6 million children live in homes with at least one loaded, unlocked firearm. Unsecured guns pose a serious risk, as they can enable unintentional shootings, youth suicides, and gun theft. Every year, nearly 350 children unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else. This legislation would help prevent these tragedies by mandating that all firearms be properly stored when not in use. I urge you to cosponsor and support this commonsense measure to protect our communities and save lives.
