Concerning Actions at the OPM

To: Rep. McDowell, Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Greensboro, NC

January 31

The recent actions taken by Elon Musk's team at the Office of Personnel Management are deeply concerning for the integrity of our federal workforce data systems. Locking career civil servants out of vital computer systems that contain sensitive personal information of millions of federal employees raises serious cybersecurity risks and lacks proper oversight. This unilateral move undermines transparency and accountability within a crucial government agency. There are legitimate worries about the mishandling of confidential employee data and the potential for misuse or exposure of this information. Denying access to senior career officials who have an obligation to safeguard these systems is unacceptable. I urge you to investigate these alarming developments at OPM. Improper control over the personal data of federal workers is an issue of national security that demands immediate scrutiny and corrective measures. Our public servants' privacy and the security of government databases must be prioritized over any partisan agendas. Robust congressional oversight is imperative to uphold the rule of law and protect our democratic institutions.
