Hoosiers Oppose Mid-Cycle Redistricting
To: Gov. Braun
From: A verified voter in Wakarusa, IN
October 27, 2025
Dear Governor Braun,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to your call for a special legislative session to redraw Indiana’s congressional and legislative districts. Hoosiers have already said clearly that we do not want new maps right now. To force this issue mid-cycle feels neither necessary nor transparent—it feels like a partisan maneuver to shield incumbents from accountability.
Across the nation, Republican leaders are pursuing mid-decade redistricting under the guise of “fair representation.” But voters can see through the rhetoric. This is not about fairness—it’s about control. It’s a preemptive strike to blunt the political backlash many in your party know is coming. The people of Indiana, regardless of party, are tired of being treated like pawns in a political chess game designed to preserve power rather than serve the public.
We are equally exhausted by the gaslighting narrative that Democrats are responsible for the government shutdown when Republicans currently control the House, the Senate, and the White House. That claim is not only misleading—it’s insulting to every Hoosier paying attention. The public deserves honesty from its leaders, not another round of partisan blame-shifting.
Calling a special session now tells us that political optics matter more to you than democratic integrity. It suggests that you are bending the knee to President Trump’s political agenda instead of listening to the people who actually live and work in this state. Leadership means courage—the courage to stand for principle over politics, and for representation over self-preservation.
Hoosiers want stable leadership, responsible governance, and an end to political gamesmanship. We urge you to cancel or postpone this special session and commit to keeping our maps as they are until the next constitutionally required redistricting cycle following the census. Doing so would demonstrate that you still value fairness, transparency, and the will of the people above partisan ambition
