Commitment to Justice and to uphold the constitution
To: Justices Court
From: A constituent in Tacoma, WA
March 19
I write to you today as a concerned citizen who believes deeply in the principles upon which our nation was founded. The Constitution, the cornerstone of our democracy, establishes a government of checks and balances to prevent any one branch from accumulating unchecked power. This system, which you have sworn to uphold, is under threat. Our Founders rejected the rule of kings and established a government in which no single person wields absolute authority. Yet, in recent years, the power of the executive branch has expanded in ways that strain the limits of constitutional authority. The President, regardless of party, is not above the law, nor should executive orders serve as a means to bypass the legislative process. When Congress—the branch closest to “We the People”—fails in its duties, it is not an excuse for the executive branch to unilaterally impose its will. The proper response is not executive fiat but rather a demand for legislative accountability. At this moment, the balance of power is faltering. The legislative branch, controlled by the Republican Party, has failed to act as an effective counterbalance to the President’s overreach. The burden, therefore, falls upon the judicial branch to ensure that the Constitution remains intact and that no President—present or future—assumes powers beyond those granted by law. Your role is not merely interpretative; it is protective. The judiciary is the last safeguard against tyranny. If the courts fail to check an overreaching executive, the precedent set today will erode the freedoms of tomorrow. I urge you to uphold the principles of the Constitution, to reaffirm the limits of presidential authority, and to remind the nation that no individual—no matter how powerful—stands above the law. I also want to extend my sincere appreciation to Chief Justice Roberts for his statement today. His commitment to the independence and integrity of the judiciary is a vital reminder that the Supreme Court remains a pillar of our democracy. In times of uncertainty, the American people look to this Court for fairness, wisdom, and an unwavering defense of constitutional principles. The American people are watching. We trust in your wisdom, your independence, and your commitment to justice. History will remember how this Court responded in the face of executive overreach. I urge you to stand firmly on the side of the Constitution and the principles of our Republic.
