Preserve clean energy incentives for affordability, jobs, environment

The proposed budget reconciliation bill from the House Ways and Means Committee takes an extreme approach by gutting vital clean energy tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Repealing these incentives would drastically reduce billions of dollars in private investment currently flowing into renewable energy projects across the nation. It would raise household energy costs, eliminate well-paying jobs in a booming manufacturing sector, and stall progress in cutting harmful greenhouse gas emissions. The IRA incentives have enabled an energy transition that is creating economic opportunities in both Republican- and Democratic-led states. Abruptly revoking this policy would undermine America's energy security and leadership in emerging technologies like electric vehicles and advanced nuclear power. I urge you to oppose the changes to the IRA's clean energy tax credits in the budget reconciliation bill and to preserve these tax credits that are so critical for energy affordability, economic growth, and environmental progress. The path to meeting our climate goals while maintaining a strong domestic industry should not be derailed for the sake of other partisan objectives in this legislation.
