Require plain language for all ballot initiatives

To: Rep. Fitzgibbon, Sen. Alvarado, Rep. Thomas, Gov. Ferguson

From: A verified voter in Seattle, WA

November 5

The passage of Initiative 638 was incredibly concerning and highlighted a crucial issue - reading comprehension among voters creates challenges that cause constituents to vote against their own interests out of a lack of understanding. As an educated individual, I found the text of 638 to be incredibly confusing. And in my background working for medicaid contractors, it was my understanding that the state required all mailers to be plain language at a sixth grade reading level. All measures placed on the ballot of your average voter should be in plain language and at a reading comprehension level that suits the average citizen.
