The “Big Beautiful Bill” Is a Direct Attack on Children’s Health
To: Rep. Wittman, Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine
From: A constituent in Midlothian, VA

The so-called “big beautiful bill” being peddled by this administration is nothing more than a polished weapon aimed straight at the most vulnerable in our society—our children. Behind the hollow slogans and buzzwords lies a brutal gutting of the very systems designed to keep kids healthy, especially those who already face barriers to care. Let’s be clear: this bill is not just an assault on Medicaid—it’s a threat to all children, including those on private insurance. 1. Medicaid Rollbacks Will Create Systemic Cracks That Swallow Children Whole This bill undermines the funding and protections guaranteed to children through Medicaid, which covers over 40% of children in the United States. Stripping down Medicaid directly jeopardizes preventative care, complex specialty treatment, and early intervention services that children rely on—especially those with congenital heart disease, autism spectrum disorder, cancer, and other serious conditions. 2. “Flexibility” Means Less Accountability, Fewer Protections The bill claims to offer states “flexibility,” which is code for slashing essential services and putting bureaucrats between pediatricians and sick kids. States will cut benefits to balance budgets, while federal oversight is neutered. That means fewer therapies, fewer mental health supports, fewer medications—fewer chances for children to thrive. 3. Private Insurance Will Not Shield Families from This Attack Private insurers will seize this chaos to raise premiums, deny coverage for developmental delays, or drop pediatric therapies. With essential health benefit mandates weakened or eliminated, private plans will be allowed to exclude maternity care, pediatric services, and mental health care. Parents will be forced to pay out-of-pocket for services that should be guaranteed. 4. Block Grants Equal Death Sentences for Disabled and Chronically Ill Children The bill’s push toward Medicaid block grants means states receive a set amount of money—regardless of need. This punishes children in states with rising populations or unexpected outbreaks, and it will create waiting lists for medically necessary care. Children will suffer. Some will die. 5. Children with Employer Coverage Will Be Collateral Damage As providers lose Medicaid reimbursements, many pediatricians, children’s hospitals, and therapists will be forced to close or limit services. That hurts every family—regardless of what insurance card they carry. This bill is not “beautiful.” It is grotesque. And I demand you fight it with every ounce of strength you have. Enough bipartisan posturing. Enough empty speeches. I am asking you to stand up and fight for children—for my children, and for yours. Strip this bill of its lies and kill it before it does irreversible harm.
