I'm asking you to support and pass the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact when it comes before the 2025 Legislature. The Senate and Assembly both approved AJR6 in 2023, but sponsors didn't request passage in the next session, blocking it from the 2026 ballot. Nevada voters deserve the chance to decide this issue.
The current system means presidential candidates ignore Nevada after the primary. Under a national popular vote, every Nevada vote would matter in November, not just votes in a handful of swing states. Candidates would have real incentive to campaign here and address issues that matter to Nevadans.
This isn't a partisan issue. A 2008 survey of 800 Nevada voters showed 72% support for a national popular vote, including 66% of Republicans and 80% of Democrats. Support was strong across every age group, with voters over 65 backing it at 73%.
The compact preserves the Electoral College while ensuring the candidate who wins the most votes nationwide becomes President. Seventeen states and DC have already joined, representing 209 electoral votes. Nevada should be next. Request passage of this constitutional amendment in 2025 so voters can decide in 2026.
