Meet With Local Media and Participate in Public Forums
To: Rep. Matsui
From: A constituent in Sacramento, CA
April 6
You need to meet with the Sacramento Bee and commit to all candidate forums without delay. Dodging media requests and only agreeing to the April 2 and 9 forums after repeated pressure shows contempt for voters who deserve to hear where you stand.
Refusing to engage with local press isn't leadership. It's avoidance. The Sacramento Bee has covered this region for decades, and constituents rely on their reporting to make informed decisions. When you duck interviews, you're telling voters that accountability doesn't matter to you.
Your reluctance to participate in public forums is equally troubling. These events exist so voters can compare candidates directly and ask tough questions. Every other candidate showed up ready to defend their positions. Your absence or late participation suggests you can't defend yours.
If you want to represent this community, act like it. Meet with the media. Show up to every forum. Answer the hard questions. If you're not willing to do that basic work, step aside for someone who will.
