We Can’t Afford Amnesia on Trump’s Big Bill

To: Rep. McGuire, Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Charlottesville, VA

August 12

Donald Trump pushed through the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in early July 2025; this monstrosity slashes Medicaid and SNAP, guts clean-energy incentives, pumps up border militarization, and hands massive tax giveaways to the ultra-wealthy. It’s nothing short of a Reverse Robin Hood scheme—coining more money for the rich while millions of vulnerable Americans lose access to basic health care, food, and utility support. The Congressional Budget Office warns that this act could strip healthcare from 10–11 million Americans, while adding trillions to the deficit by 2034. Meanwhile, billions in clean energy tax credits vanish, undercutting our progress toward cheaper energy and a healthier planet. The rollout of these devastating cuts is already underway. American Progress’s timeline lays it bare: Medicaid, SNAP, education and clean-energy supports are being dialed back in phases, urgency disguised as a drawn-out implementation, but the result is the same: families denied essential aid. We can’t look away. Trump manufactured this mess. The American people, especially the struggling families and rural communities, are paying the price. This is not reform. It’s a brutal power play that must be stopped before it irreversibly harms millions. Keep shining a spotlight on this disaster. They need to remember who’s to blame and what’s really at stake.
