Prioritize policies promoting solar power growth

To: Rep. Liguori, Gov. Hobbs, Rep. Marquez, Sen. Alston

Promoting renewable energy sources like solar power is crucial for future economic growth and environmental sustainability. There is immense solar potential that is currently being squandered. By embracing solar energy, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, lower energy costs for residents and businesses, and create new jobs in the burgeoning clean energy sector. However, recent policy decisions at the state and federal levels have erected barriers to solar adoption. Discouraging measures like stepped-down export rates for residential solar customers and discriminatory fees imposed on them discourage investment in rooftop solar installations. Furthermore, the removal of federal tax incentives and tariffs on solar components have dampened the growth of utility-scale solar projects. To unlock the full solar potential, policymakers must implement measures that facilitate, rather than hinder, the development of solar energy. This includes reinstating tax credits, eliminating unjustified fees, and streamlining regulatory processes for solar projects. Such actions would align with energy needs, capitalize on abundant sunshine, and position the region as a leader in the clean energy transition. I urge you to prioritize policies that promote the growth of solar power. Doing so will not only benefit the economy and environment but also ensure a sustainable energy future for generations to come.
