I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent regarding the continued disregard for due process, constitutional protections, and basic human decency in the deportation and detention of immigrants, asylum seekers, and even U.S. citizens under policies stemming from the Trump administration and still reverberating today. Too many individuals—innocent people, many of them children, persons of color, and those with severe medical needs—are being forcibly removed or detained in ways that defy our nation’s core values and legal standards. It is appalling to witness children as young as two, or children battling cancer, being deported to countries with unstable governments, or worse, facing imprisonment or death. This includes places like El Salvador, where some have no connection or support and face life-threatening conditions. I urge you to take action and advocate for the release of individuals such as U.S. citizen Kilmar Abrego Garcia and Venezuelan immigrant Maiker Espinoza, a gay makeup artist and soccer player who has become a symbol of strength and identity. These are human beings—sons, brothers, neighbors—whose stories are being erased in a system that fails to recognize their humanity. What is happening is unjust. These individuals deserve due process, access to legal representation, the ability to contact their families, and the protection of their human rights. Our nation cannot claim to stand for freedom and justice while stripping these basic rights from those most vulnerable. I ask you to please do your job: uphold the Constitution, enforce humane immigration policy, hold agencies accountable, and speak up for people who cannot speak for themselves. We are better than this—at least, we should be.
