Please Vote NO on HR 1

To: Rep. Kim

From: A verified voter in Lake Forest, CA

July 3

I am writing to you today as a concerned constituent from California's 40th Congressional District to strongly urge you to vote NO on HR 1, "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act." While the bill contains various provisions, the proposed cuts to Medicaid are deeply alarming and would have devastating consequences for thousands of your constituents in our district. As you know, Medicaid (known as Medi-Cal in California) is a lifeline for millions, providing essential healthcare services to our most vulnerable neighbors, including children, seniors, people with disabilities, and working families. Reports indicate that HR 1, as passed by the House and now under consideration in the Senate, could lead to a staggering $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid nationally. For California, this translates to billions in lost federal funding and, critically, the loss of health coverage for millions of residents. Specifically, experts estimate that provisions within HR 1, such as new work requirements, accelerated eligibility redeterminations, and reductions in federal matching funds, could strip over 100,000 people in California alone of their Medi-Cal coverage. In our district, CA-40, this impact would be acutely felt. Many of your constituents rely on Medi-Cal for life-saving care, from routine check-ups to critical treatments for chronic conditions. Losing this coverage would not only jeopardize their health and well-being but also place an immense strain on our local hospitals, clinics, and emergency services, potentially leading to increased healthcare costs for everyone. Furthermore, these cuts disproportionately affect those who are already struggling to make ends meet. It is imperative that we protect access to affordable healthcare for all, not reduce it. Beyond the humanitarian concerns, I urge you to consider the political implications of supporting this bill. Constituents in our district have already voiced strong opposition to these proposed Medicaid cuts, with rallies and protests held at your district offices. Voting for HR 1, which threatens to take away healthcare from a significant portion of your voter base, could severely jeopardize your re-election chances in the upcoming election. Voters will remember how their elected representatives voted on issues that directly impact their families' health and financial security. I understand the complexities of federal budgeting, but sacrificing the health coverage of our most vulnerable citizens to achieve other fiscal goals is not a path forward that benefits the people of CA-40. I respectfully ask that you reconsider your position on HR 1 and vote no on this legislation. Please stand with your constituents and protect the vital healthcare services that so many depend on. Thank you for your time and consideration of this critical matter. I look forward to your response and your commitment to safeguarding healthcare access for our community.
