Support Cruz's Plan to Separate ICE and CBP from DHS

To: Rep. Maloy, Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

March 22

I'm asking you to support Senator Cruz's proposal to spin off ICE and Customs and Border Patrol into separate agencies with their own funding. This would allow immediate restoration of DHS funding for TSA and FEMA without waiting for the ICE reorganization fight to resolve. The current standoff has left TSA security personnel absent from airports, creating hours-long waits for weeks. Our security interests are being compromised while Congress argues over ICE rules. This is unacceptable. Travelers shouldn't suffer because of a dispute over whether ICE agents can wear face masks or must reveal their identities. Cruz's plan breaks the deadlock. ICE is already separately funded under the Big Beautiful Bill despite being a DHS subsidiary, so the structural precedent exists. Separating ICE and CBP would let you fund the rest of DHS immediately, getting TSA agents back to work and restoring FEMA operations. Democrats who want ICE reforms can pursue that debate separately without holding airport security and disaster response hostage. Federal officials have warned for weeks that American security is at risk during this funding gap. Pass this separation plan now.
