Professionalism & Representation for All Americans

To: Sen. Daines, Rep. Zinke, Sen. Sheehy

From: A constituent in Whitefish, MT

October 8

I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment regarding an official government statement on the U.S. Forest Service website I found to be highly unprofessional and alarmingly partisan. The statement in reads: “The Radical Left Democrats shut down the government. This government website will be updated periodically during the funding lapse for mission critical functions. President Trump has made it clear he wants to keep the government open and support those who feed, fuel, and clothe the American people.
For information on recreation site status on National Forest System lands, please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/visit.” This message, which appeared on a federal government website, is not only misleading and inflammatory but also undermines the integrity and neutrality that we, as citizens, expect from official communications. Taxpayer-funded resources should never be used to promote partisan rhetoric or assign political blame, particularly during a government shutdown—an event that already sows confusion, anxiety, and hardship among federal workers and the public alike. I urge you to investigate how this language came to be posted on a federal platform and to take appropriate steps to ensure that all public communications from government agencies remain fact-based, neutral, and respectful of the public trust. Government websites should serve all Americans, regardless of political affiliation. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope you will advocate for a return to professionalism and accountability in government communications.
