I am deeply concerned about Medicaid cuts and the risks of rolling too many issues into a single bill, leading to unintended consequences.
Medicaid fraud is a serious problem, but the primary culprits are bad actors within the system—not individuals unfairly receiving benefits. The Office of Inspector General regularly identifies and prosecutes cases involving fraudulent billing, opioid distribution, and improper payments due to bribery and kickbacks. Addressing fraud should not come at the expense of vulnerable families.
If Medicaid funding is reduced, low-income individuals will lose access to essential health care. ACA premium subsidies offer an affordable way to provide coverage. Mothers caring for disabled children should receive Medicaid without work requirements. Frequent requalification risks stripping families of care, disrupting lives. Meanwhile, corporations receive tax breaks while struggling families suffer—this is morally wrong and fiscally irresponsible.
Medicaid cuts will ripple across the economy. Rural clinics and hospitals will close, jobs will be lost, and health care costs for the insured will rise due to an increase in uncompensated care. Without coverage, people must choose between preventive care, medication, or even food.
This issue impacts all Americans, regardless of party. If Medicaid cuts proceed, voters will take notice—and respond accordingly. I urge you to fight for health care access and protect those in need.
