Protect AmeriCorps and also, generally, do better

To: Sen. Cortez Masto, Sen. Rosen, Rep. Horsford

From: A constituent in North Las Vegas, NV

April 20

I did an AmeriCorps service year in 2021. In the event you're unfamiliar with AmeriCorps, there are many different types and focuses of the programs but the common theme across all of them is that the time is seen as volunteer work. It's service. You receive a living stipend that does not cover even housing in most places. Yes, there are administrators and coordinators who run the AmeriCorps program, but the services provided should actually be looked to as an example of how the government CAN be efficient. The model provided a channel for local needs (ex. low literacy rates) to be filled with full-time volunteers. I could write about an infinite amount of other things, as well. PLEASE DO YOUR JOB. The state of the country right now is a joke. Where is your leadership? I want to see action. I want to see the folks representing your office have a deep understanding of the issues. More than anything, I want to see a good faith effort to protect democracy. I'm sorry, you're failing.
