Head Start programs provide crucial early education and support services to over half a million low-income children and their families across the country. Unfortunately, recent actions by the administration have caused upheaval and financial strain for these vital programs. Mass layoffs within the Office of Head Start have left preschool operators without guidance or administrative support for grant applications and operations. Dozens of centers have already been forced to temporarily close due to funding disruptions, leaving children without care and parents unable to work. Head Start enjoys bipartisan backing due to its proven benefits in promoting child development and school readiness, especially for underprivileged communities. However, misguided attempts to slash federal funding put these programs at risk of decline or elimination. I urge you to take action to protect and expand funding for Head Start to ensure these invaluable early learning opportunities remain available for the children and families who need them most. Every child deserves a strong educational foundation, regardless of their economic circumstances.
