Support for the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA)

To: Rep. Horsford, Sen. Cortez Masto, Sen. Rosen

From: A constituent in Las Vegas, NV

June 4

Dear Members of Congress, I am writing to express my support for the proposed Interstate Obscenity Definition Act (IODA) and respectfully urge its consideration and passage. I support this legislation because it establishes the need for clear, uniform, and enforceable standards regarding obscene material transmitted across state lines. Where law is ambiguous, enforcement becomes inconsistent; where standards are undefined, corruption of boundaries increases. Clear definition is necessary for lawful governance. ⸻ Moral and Scriptural Foundations (KJV) 1. God requires righteous judgment, not partial or inconsistent standards Leviticus 19:15 (KJV) “Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.” Law must not be inconsistent or subjective in application. Justice requires fixed standards, not shifting interpretation. ⸻ 2. Evil is not to be permitted or normalized 1 Thessalonians 5:22 (KJV) “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” What is corrupting or evil in appearance is not to be normalized or made acceptable through ambiguity or lack of definition. ⸻ 3. Order is required in governance and public conduct 1 Corinthians 14:40 (KJV) “Let all things be done decently and in order.” Civil order requires defined boundaries. Disorder in definition produces disorder in enforcement and society. ⸻ 4. Nations are judged by righteousness Proverbs 14:34 (KJV) “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” When standards are unclear or weakened, reproach follows. When righteousness is upheld, stability is strengthened. ⸻ 5. The duty of man is accountability before God Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV) “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Civil law is strengthened when aligned with accountability, restraint, and moral clarity rather than permissiveness or ambiguity. ⸻ 6. God is the source of goodness and moral truth Psalm 136:1 (KJV) “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 145:9 (KJV) “The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.” Goodness is not subjective. It is grounded in God’s nature, which does not change. ⸻ Closing Statement I respectfully urge support for the Interstate Obscenity Definition Act as a necessary measure to establish clear legal boundaries, consistent enforcement, and lawful order across state lines. Where definitions are clear, law is enforceable; where they are vague, disorder increases.
